Usage Guide
If you’re visiting from the UK, try the UK-specific version of this calculator.
Using the monthly salary to hourly wage calculator is easy. First, you’ll need to input your monthly income. This can be your gross income or your net income, depending on your preference. Next, you’ll need to input the number of hours you work each day. The calculator will then show your an approximate hourly wage based on these inputs.
Some additional notes about each field:
- Hours Worked Per Day: Typical full-time work is counted at 8 hours per day. Please modify this as would be appropriate for your situation.
- Working Days per Week: Typically the number is 5, but please modify as per your needs.
- Days in Month: This refers to the number of total days in a month (not just working days). As months can have either 28, 29, 30, or 31 days, you can change this field as per your preference. By default, it is set at 30.42 days, which is on average the number of days in each month. This is good enough if you just want a rough idea.
In addition to showing the hourly wage, for your convenience, this calculator also shows the wages on a weekly and biweekly basis. The biweekly basis is useful as many people are paid every 2 weeks, and this will help you to figure out how much your paycheque will be (before taxes) in advance.
How to calculate salary to hourly?
The easiest way to convert a monthly salary to an hourly wage is shown below:
Hourly wage = Monthly Salary ÷ 174 hours
Let’s take an example: Wondering what $3,500 a month is in hourly terms? Take your monthly salary of $3,500 and divide by 174 hours per month. This works out to approximately $20.11 per hour.
Please note that as there can be numerous combinations of working days/weeks per month, this calculation is only an approximate figure. It gives you an hourly wage for an average month, so it may be slightly different than your true hourly rate.

Why calculate your hourly wage?
