Usage Guide
This dividend income calculator helps you determine how much you will receive from a certain stock or ETF. The tool provides you the historical dividend payout data for the chosen period of time. Where available, it will also show you the expected the dividend over the coming year.
- Ticker: This is the only mandatory input. We support many symbols around the world. Please use the Yahoo Finance format for the ticker. So for example for the JPMorgan Equity Premium Income ETF use JEPI.US, or for the Schwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF use SCHD.US.
For UK-listed funds and stocks, such as VUSA, please use VUSA.L or for Lloyds, you would use LLOY.L. - Start Date: This is also optional. By default it’s set to 3 years ago, so you can get sufficient historical data.
- Pick One: If you own a specific number of shares or have the total current value of your shares, then you can use this to adjust the output generated. Please note that the default assumption is that fractional shares are allowed.
Rate Limit: Please note that as there is a limit on the number of calculations you can perform with this tool. If you run in to a rate limit, please come back after a few minutes. There is a hard limit of 50 calculations per day, so if you do hit that, please try again the next day.
Outputs
The output is generated in text and tabular format. Where available (typically for stocks), upcoming expected annual dividends are shown. Please note that this is merely a guess as one can only confirm after the board has declared its dividend.
The table shows the historical dividend payments. In many cases, the “ex-dividend date” and the “record date” are fairly close to each other, typically 1 day apart. The ex-dividend date will be 1 day prior to the record date.
Important note: If you see dividend value as just $0.00 in the table, it’s most likely that each dividend paid out is less than $0.01 (in any currency). You can get around this by using 1000 shares in the “Pick One” so you can see an amount.
Before You Go…
Dividends are a great source of income and when they’re re-invested, they can be a powerful source of compounding. Please use our dividend reinvestment calculator if you want to see that compounding in action.
