Let’s face it – bank statements can sometimes be tricky to understand! If you’re a TD Bank mobile app user, you may have seen ‘FM Deposit HOLD SEE SM’ appear in your transactions list. But what does this mean, and what can you do about it?
‘FM Deposit HOLD SEE SM’ is a notice you’ll see on your TD Bank mobile app when a check deposit is yet to clear. Until your check clears, this message will continue to appear on your statement.
Let’s take a closer look at what check holds mean for your bank balance and what you can do if this infamous message pops up frequently.
What does FM Deposit HOLD SEE SM mean?
You’ll find ‘FM Deposit HOLD SEE SM’ in your TD Bank mobile app next to a check deposit awaiting clearance. This means the bank is yet to fully confirm and clear your payment(s) into your account.
This message and hold will typically occur for long periods if you deposit checks on non-business days. These may include weekends and national holidays.
Personal checks usually take at least two business days to clear but may take longer depending on your bank or any extra measures they decide to take.
For example, if you deposit a check at TD Bank on Saturday, you may not see it clear and appear in your account balance until the following Wednesday morning.
What should I do if I find FM Deposit HOLD SEE SM on my bank statement?
Unfortunately, if you’re still within the two business days period, you’ll need to wait the period out for your personal check to clear. If your check is yet to clear after this time, it’s wise to contact your bank for advice.
Keep in mind, however, that it may take a week – in some cases – for checks to clear after being on hold.
This message isn’t an error – but it can be scary to see any money on hold in your account! Don’t worry – it’ll likely clear soon. If it doesn’t, a representative at TD Bank will help you get to the bottom of the issue.
How long will it take for a held check deposit to release?
A held check deposit will generally clear within two business days of it reaching your bank, though this may take longer. Factors that can change this may include your bank’s individual policies when you make your deposit, and if the bank needs to perform extra checks.
How do I avoid TD Bank holds in future?
Try to make check deposits on business days and towards the start of the business week. For example, depositing on a Monday morning will mean your check should likely clear by midweek.
If you deposit a check on Thursday or Friday, you may have to wait for it to clear over the weekend.
Again, some factors can affect how long your check takes to leave hold and clear – so always speak to your bank’s advisors if you are unsure.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to avoid TD Bank holding your checks and other payments if they are within the windows of time they suggest. If you’re waiting for more than a week for your check(s) to clear, it’s probably time to take the issue further.
Should I worry about FM Deposit HOLD SEE SM on my account?
If you see FM Deposit HOLD SEE SM appear on your bank statement or in your mobile banking app, it’s normally no need for concern. All checks need time to clear, regardless of the bank that sends and receives them.
If you are worried about TD Bank holding your checks for longer periods than you expect, always contact a member of their customer care team.
There will be a legitimate reason for the hold on your account, and where possible, the bank may be able to provide you with further details.
